Clinical Expertise
Dr. Surya G. Krishnan's clinical work focuses on the evaluation of families with suspected genetic conditions, including pre-test and post-test counselling, regular monitoring and management, prenatal diagnostics and prenatal counselling.
Neurofibromatosis Multispeciality Clinic
Dr. Krishnan is the consultant in charge of the Neurofibromatosis Multispeciality Clinic at the Centre for Human Genetics, established in July 2023.
The clinic provides care and monitoring for individuals with Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), with an emphasis on early clinical diagnosis, genetic confirmation and long-term multidisciplinary care.
The programme also aims to create a database to estimate the incidence of NF1 in the Indian population and investigate genotype–phenotype correlations.
Long-term monitoring and family education are important components of the programme, including early identification of malignancies and appropriate multidisciplinary care.
Research
Integrative Approach to Neurofibromatosis Type 1
Integrative approach to Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) interrogating neoplastic growth and molecular genetics for personalized care
Dr. Krishnan is the Principal Investigator of this Collaborative Research Grant from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka, for the period 2024–2026.
The project takes a holistic approach to the management of individuals with NF1, investigating the mutational spectrum of the Neurofibromin gene and its association with neoplasms and different phenotypes.
The work also aims to establish a long-term surveillance platform for individuals with NF1 who are at risk of developing neoplasms.
Teaching & Training
Dr. Krishnan is involved in training programmes for doctors, including postgraduates, pediatricians, obstetricians and gynecologists, and fetal medicine specialists.
She also contributes to the training of genetic counsellors and MSc students.
